Henry Ford Academy: Power House High (grades 9-12) is the first in a series of new Henry Ford Academies planned for selected communities across the United States. Developed in collaboration with a range of partners, including the Henry Ford Learning Institute, Ford Motor Company, the Homan Arthington Foundation, and the Center for Urban School Improvement at the University of Chicago, the school is excited to be a part of the growing vitality of the North Lawndale
community. Power House High will be based on the acclaimed Henry Ford Academy, the nation’s first public school developed in partnership with a cultural institution, a global corporation and public education, located in Dearborn, Michigan. Like the original Henry Ford Academy, Power House High will prepare students for post-secondary academic
success and future career challenges through an innovative curriculum and performance assessment-centered model for education. Power House High will open in August 2008 serving 120 ninth graders. In subsequent years, Power House High will add grades 10-12 and expand to 460 students at full enrollment. The school’s permanent site location will be in the historic Homan Square Power House located at 931 South Homan Avenue in North Lawndale.

A candidate search is now underway for founding teachers in all subject areas who demonstrate an enthusiasm for the profession, a passion for teaching students, a love for their chosen content area, and interest in working in an urban setting.
