
Spanish/ESL Teacher (Part-Time)
The Academy for Global Citizenship, a contract school, is seeking a part-time
Spanish/ESL Teacher.
Key Responsibilities:
• Teaching: provides students with various modes of learning to accommodate their different learning styles, by using real-life experiences, current events, information technology, the dramatic arts and other lively sources of knowledge in Spanish.
• Instructional Strategies: responsible for using many different types of instructional strategies to assist English Language Learners, including teaching through inquiry, differentiation, and data driven instruction.
• Technology Integration: incorporates technology across all disciplines as mush as possible, where appropriate.
• Professional Development: stays abreast of latest techniques and demonstrates an eagerness to learn new skills and share experiences with others.
• Curriculum Development: works closely with other teachers and staff to ensure curriculum is aligned with Illinois Learning Standards and is achieving the goals of the school. Helps review current curriculum and assists in making changes based on performance data. Leads the curriculum implementation strategy for designated grade level.
• Performance Assessment: sets high and measurable goals for student achievement and evaluates student progress in the instructional program.
• New Staff and Student Assimilation: leads the orientation of new staff members and new students and provide opportunities for their input in the school program.
• Community: encourages the use of community resources, cooperates with the community in the use of school facilities, interprets the school program for the community, and maintains communication with community members.
• Works closely with the Director of Special Education in identifying learning needs and delays, developing and implementing an Individualized Education Plan where indicated.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Fluent in Spanish
• 5+ years experience as an educator (ideal)
• Strong leadership skills and personal drive • Ability to implement programs to improve educational achievement
• Ability to build partnerships with community organizations
• Ability to maintain a safe, orderly environment
• Commitment to technological advancement
• Familiarity with various educational models
• Strong communication skills
• Plays a lead role in their grade level
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor Degree in Education
• Masters degree preferred in education or related fields
• State of Illinois Teaching Certificate with English as a Second Language endorsement
