Social Worker/Life Coach

 

Perspectives South Loop Campus is seeking a Social Worker/Life Coach who:

·Exhibits a strong commitment to the ethos of Perspectives Charter Schools;

·Displays discretion, confidentiality, honesty and integrity in his/her relationships with the differing sectors of Perspectives and the wider community;

·Demonstrates initiative and responsibility in regard to communication to staff, parents, and students;

·Serves as an advocate for social justice, the development of character, and the right to receive and pursue an exceptional education;

·Ability to look at students as creative, resourceful and capable people who can function successfully at school and in life.

Specific Skills and Attributes

The Social Worker/Life Coach possesses a Masters degree in Social Work. He/She exhibits:

·Knowledge and experience in working with students individually, in groups and in classroom settings;

·Interest and capacity to partner with teachers in periodic lessons for ADL classes;

·Ability to engage families in support of their children’s needs;

·Capacity to work collaboratively with teams and nurture collegial relationships;

·Ability to collaborate and support teachers regarding their concerns about students;

·Knowledge and experience in collecting and synthesizing data to develop social development studies for IEP reports;

·An aptitude for helping students to set goals about immediate and long-term life choices;

·A high ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues;

·An aptitude for mentoring and fostering teacher-student relationships; ·Efficient organizational skills in short-term and long-term planning;

·If school community requires it, bilingual candidate preferred.

Detailed Duties

The following list of duties is descriptive of the Social Worker/Life Coach’s role. In some areas, specific descriptors have been listed, while in others the description is listed in more general terms. As such, the duties should be regarded as an indication of the areas of responsibility and involvement, but that time and experience determines extent. The Social Worker/Life Coach must understand that in a rapidly developing school situation, a reasonable degree of flexibility is essential. The role often demands after-hours involvement at meetings, presentations, and attendance at school and conferences. The Social Work/Life Coach, then, is required to undertake the duties specified in the following areas:

Therapy and Coaching ·Works with students in individual, small groups, or classroom groups to help them understand and resolve their concerns;

·Coaches students to identify issues that limit their capacity and create goals to move them forward;

·Ability to identify abuse and neglect situations and make timely reports to DCFS or other agencies (also support to other staff in reporting); ·Initiate collateral contact with parents/guardians on an as-needed basis;

·Experience in running groups and workshops with parents/guardians on effective parenting, child development, community resources;

·Ability to creatively network with community agencies to find resources for students and families (also summer activities);

·Collaborate with teachers and administrators to determine appropriate students for referral;

·Consistent interaction with and participation in consultations with teachers, specialists, and other professionals as appropriate.

Professional Development

The Social Worker/Life Coach will participate and lead professional development during Perspectives’ traditional professional development programs, and those that result from identified areas of need. Professional development is one of Perspectives’ guiding principles so its adherence is strongly supported.

Specific aspects pertaining to the role include:

·Attendance and participation at CORE and CAMP every summer; ·Designated and undesignated leadership in professional development;

·Weekly participation in grade level and content-specific meetings; ·Acquisition of various learning opportunities (school, district, privately sponsored events) throughout the school year;

·Reflective and effective implementation of new knowledge.

Specific aspects pertaining to this role include:

·Identify areas of concern regarding students living and performing according to the tenets of A Disciplined Life© curriculum;

·Modeling and teaching The Perspective Way;

·Monitoring and implementing the school uniform and discipline code; ·Supporting and cultivating strong parent and family involvement through the curriculum and school life.
