Director of Operations

 

The Academy for Global Citizenship is a prospective International Baccalaureate elementary contract school, opening through Renaissance 2010 in the West Elsdon community in the fall of 2008.

 

The Director of Operations is responsible for the general financial, operational and technological oversight of the Academy for Global Citizenship. Along with the Executive Director and Principal, the Director of Operations completes the Executive Leadership Team for the Academy for Global Citizenship.

The Director of Operations reports directly to the Principal and is expected to:

 

Finance

 
  •  Administer effective accounting, planning, budgeting efforts, including payroll, benefits, and all aspects of the general ledger.
  •  Prepare annual budgets for presentation to the Board in collaboration with the Executive Director. Establish, review, and enforce financial and accounting policy. Develop business processes to ensure adequate financial and cost controls.
  • Ensure timely monthly review of the financial condition and performance relative to financial objectives.
  • Manage all vendor< relationships, flows of funds, procurement, etc., and ensure an effective system of internal control is present.
  • Develop and monitor budgets to< ensure that all expenditure of funds meet all state, federal, local, and grant guidelines.
  • Oversee the annual audit and ensure compliance with all reporting entities, including an array of foundation and government funding sources.
  • Administer all insurance requirements.
  • Collect, issue receipt of and record enrollment fees and additional student costs.
  • Coordinate all registration procedures and forms, while maintaining the student database and ensuring accessibility.
  • Provide accounting and acknowledgment for all gifts, grants and donations.

 

Operations

  • Oversee the operation of all facilities, including safety and security needs. Manage office facilities, equipment, furniture, supplies and vendors.
  • Develop and ensure sustainable practices are researched, developed and implemented in compliance with the school's Environmental Sustainability Policy, particularly pertaining to operations (i.e. composting, recycling, cleaning services).
  • Direct core office activities and administrative functions: telecommunication, mail, ordering supplies, maintaining the general files and databases.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Team, develop a five-year strategic plan.
  • Ensure that all safety and ADA codes are intact and coordinate maintenance needs of the facility and equipment, including the school playground and garden.
  • Manage current facility renovations and facilitate future facility planning.
  • Manage related meetings and oversee work of contractor, architect, engineer and associated personnel.
  • Maintains healthy student meal program compliance measures as a School Food Authority. Develops processes and ensures collection of related data, funds and records. Oversees related personnel and services.
  • Manage the future facility planning process and capital campaign. Technology
  • Manage IT resources and all information systems. Oversee staff and vendors to ensure smooth operations, including network administration, backups, and ongoing special projects related to hardware, software, and data management.
  • Direct use of technology to optimize business< processes and streamline school administration tasks.

 

Qualifications:

  • College and/or master degree in< an appropriate field. Preference for an MBA or CPA.
  • Entrepreneurial thinker with exceptional leadership skills and a desire to support the vision and mission of the Academy for Global Citizenship.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm for doing whatever it takes to ensure the operational and financial needs of the school are met.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, perform at a high level under pressure, and work efficiently as both a school business official and/or team member and as a leader.  
  • Teacher highly desired.
  • Preference for charter or contract school experience.
  • Strong background in accounting, finance, and operations.
  • Familiarity with Chicago Public Schools political landscape.
  • Strong belief that all students can succeed at very high levels.
  • Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office, a sophisticated accounting software package, and a basic understanding of network technology is required.
  • Spanish proficiency preferred.
