Senior Accountant

 

The Academy of Scholastic Achievement, a Youth Connections Charter School Campus, is looking for a Senior Accountant.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Chief Administrator, the Senior Accountant performs professional accounting work, including auditing, analyzing and verifying fiscal records and reports, preparing financial and statistical reports, providing information to administrators regarding accounting practices and procedures and reconciling general ledger accounts. He/She assists in preparing the annual and mid-year budgets, prepares year-end audit reports and schedules. This individual is responsible for developing and maintaining cost effective systems of internal controls which will safeguard assets and minimize expenses.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

• Prepare and issue fiscal documents on a timely basis

• Ensure adequate accounting records are maintained of all assets, liabilities, and transactions

• Ensure controls are adequate and current enabling corrective action is taken where necessary and on a timely basis

• Prepare and interpret financial statements, expense data and management control reports

• Assist chief administrator in appraising their activities in terms of financial results

• Establish procedures and methods for the taking and valuation of inventories

• Review and update procedures for handling cash and property to protect the school from loss through negligence or dishonesty

• Submit timely vouchers

• Maintain voucher control by maintaining adequate documentation of authorized appropriations and review sums expended against the appropriations

• Assist the Chief Administrator in developing and monitoring budgets, program reviews and audits

• Manage and provide direct supervision of the staff accountant; evaluate his/her performance and provide professional development opportunities as appropriate

• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field • 3-5 years of fund accounting experience or five years of accounting experience

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the generally accepted accounting practices and principles

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Fund or governmental accounting practices and principles

• Experience with auditing practices and principles

• Understanding of the applicable accounting laws, codes and regulations

• Previous experience in not-for-profit accounting; solid understanding of public agency budgeting practices and principles

• Excellent communication skills verbally and written

• Ability to represent the school in a positive, professional manner at all times

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office platform (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)

• Must be self-directed and have the ability to manage multiple projects with little supervision
