School Director - The University of Chicago Charter School, North Kenwood/Oakland Campus

The University of Chicago Center for Urban School Improvement seeks a school leader to head the North Kenwood/Oakland (NKO) Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School.  Located on the South Side of Chicago, NKO enrolls 335 children in prekindergarten through grade five.  Its mission is to 1) prepare all its students for success in college, beginning in prekindergarten; 2) serve as a professional development site where teachers and staff strengthen their capacity to educate all children well; and 3) contribute to the community through programming for children and families offered beyond the school day. 

Candidates should be proven instructional leaders with a strong vision and high-level organizational skills for ensuring the school achieves its primary mission to provide the highest quality education to all its students.  Required are deep expertise in balanced literacy, Everyday Mathematics, formative assessment, evidence-based decision-making, adult learning through professional development, and academic and social supports for children and their families.  Also needed are demonstrated commitment to parent and community engagement, distributed leadership, continuous improvement, and practice informed by research.  Finally, candidates should evidence cultural competency, capacity to collaborate, and capacity to engage in sound budget and operational management.
