Namaste Charter School is a new charter school that opened in 2004 on the near south side of Chicago. They served only kindergarten and first grades in the first year and will grow to serve grades K – 8 over the next eight years. In Fall 2008, they will serve K-5th grade. Namaste believes higher student achievement can be fostered by nourishing the mind and body of children through rigorous academic instruction, training in health and nutrition, and regular physical exercise. The school incorporates health, nutrition, and athletics into its rigorous curriculum, developed to ensure literacy, numeracy and a lifelong love of learning.
School Model:
Namaste is a year round school. Teachers and students get the months of December, April and August off of traditional school. During these months, students have the option of attending enrichment intercession programming.
Faculty Job Description:
Namaste Charter School will hire motivated and qualified instructional staff for the 2008-2009 academic year to teach 1st-5th grades. Additionally, they are looking for a Social Worker (full or part time), and teacher’s assistants. They are looking for people who are committed to the mission and vision of the school. Teachers will be selected based on their relevant experience, level of training, similar pedagogical beliefs, and demonstration of potential to provide excellent instruction.
Specifically, we are looking for staff members with:
• Belief in the mission and vision of the school: a holistic approach to movement education integrating cognitive, physical and emotional learning.
• Experience working with a diverse student body
• Strong organizational skills
• Interest in working collaboratively and reflect on own practice to improve instruction for all students
• Flexibility necessary to be a part of a start-up operation • Possession of Illinois Teacher Certification
• Ability to use a balanced literacy framework and integrate music and art into curriculum and provide differentiated instruction
• An understanding of the integral role of the moving body in all learning. • Commitment to using assessment to drive instruction
• Willingness to consistently manage student behavior employing school-wide system
• Dedication to actively engage parents in educational advocacy for their children

Compensation:
Namaste Charter School considers instructional staff to be its most valuable resource and is dedicated to supporting and compensating staff appropriately. All teachers will receive a competitive salary and benefits package as well as at least one hour of planning time a day plus a duty free lunch period and time and support for professional growth.
