Chartered in 1997, Perspectives Charter School (PCS) has earned its national reputation as a model of how a small school with innovative, effective education can transform urban schooling. Perspectives is launching a new school on Chicago’s south side, Perspectives Calumet High School of Technology, that will educate approximately 200 students during the inaugural school year. Students will be digitally immersed in all aspects of school life and will participate in a yearlong technology curriculum focused on digital technology and media PCS provides urban students with a rigorous, relevant education that will prepare them for a changing and competitive world. They are seeking a Science & Technology Instructional Leader who has the courage, expertise, heart and dedication needed to create an exemplary school in its second year.

Instructional Leader Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the Principal, the Instructional Leader builds and maintains a teaching staff that excels in teaching, is committed to Perspectives Charter Schools curriculum, adheres to the State Standards for their curriculum, is committed to raising standardized test scores overall, and has effective communication with students, parents and colleagues about progress.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create a culture of high academic and behavioral expectations
  • Develop and manage goals and objectives for teachers in order to increase teacher effectiveness and curriculum alignment
  • Facilitate teacher meetings
  • Collaborate and lead a team to provide clear expectations in developing improved classroom instruction, student performance, and discipline
  • Collect and review teacher lesson plans and quarterly outlines regularly
  • Conduct regular informal and formal observations/evaluations of teachers, as well as provide ongoing mentoring, coaching, modeling, and feedback for teacher development
  • Plan and implement individualized professional development for teacher
  • Track, analyze, and communicate data to support and further student achievement

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able to demonstrate effective learning, teaching, collaboration, and computer skills
  • At least several years of teaching experience/and or leadership experience in an urban environment, during which time students demonstrated significant improvements in academic performance
  • Strong support of the idea that detailed assessment of academic progress must be available in order to effectively plan and tailor instruction to students’ specific learning needs
