Healthy Lifestyles Teacher
Perspectives Charter School - Calumet High School is seeking a
Healthy Lifestyles Teacher.

Position Purpose:
To perform functions and duties to facilitate learning and concept application in health and physical fitness instruction to ensure proficiency in living a healthy life. To ensure students gain a greater understanding of their own cultural heritage, as well as a sense of the larger world community by learning of diseases and illness they are more genetically exposed to and various life style changes that will help prevent and avoid illness. Serve as an advocate for social justice, the development of character, and the right to receive and pursue an exceptional education.
Essential functions:
- Provide an academically rigorous curriculum that aligns with both Perspectives’ standards and the Illinois Teaching Standards
- Prepare lesson plans, outlines and/or syllabi that reflect the cultivation of Healthy Lifestyles Co-plan with other subject-matter instructions to integrate health and fitness across curriculums
- Offer alternative, performance, force-choice and creative assessments and activities
- Plan and facilitate field studies to support and enhance classroom curriculum Maintain accurate student grades, records and/or portfolios
- Provide input and support grade level, subject matter and instructional leader led meetings
- Model and teach The Perspectives Way
- Teach and/or facilitate the "A Disciplined Life" curriculum
- Implement and monitor both the school uniform and discipline codes
- Cultivate and support parent and family involvement in school curriculum and school life
- Participate and lead professional development programs
- Participate in CORE and CAMP each summer
- Duties as assigned in support of A Disciplined Life Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with certification in Physical Fitness, Kinesiology or area of study appropriate to teach health and fitness. Experience in the transfer of knowledge to middle school or high school students. Ability to develop and foster successful teacher/student relationships. Ability to work collaboratively with teams and nurture collegial relationships. Proven organizational skills. Proven ability to work well with diverse constituents. Proven ability to verbally communicate ideas effectively. Proven ability to exercise initiative and discretion in the performance of position responsibilities
