Essential functions:

  • Ensure student IEP accommodations are adhere to
  • Provide an academically rigorous curriculum that aligns with both Perspectives’ standards and the Illinois Teaching Standards Plans, develops, writes and implements curriculum and educational programs in accordance with educational/treatment goals and students’ abilities
  • Interact and participate in consultations with teachers, specialist and other professionals, as appropriate, to plan and prepare Individualized Educational Programs (IEP) in accordance with goals
  • Facilitate comprehensive program planning and team teaching
  • Guide and offer independent scientific practices and research activities to foster scientific thinking, applications and ethics
  • Offer alternative, performance, force-choice and creative assessments and activities
  • Maintain accurate student grades, records and/or portfolios
  • Provide input and support grade level, subject matter and instructional leader led meetings
  • Model and teach The Perspectives Way
  • Teach and/or facilitate the A Disciplined Life curriculum
  • Implement and monitor both the school uniform and discipline codes
  • Cultivate and support parent and family involvement in school curriculum and school life
  • Participate and lead professional development programs Participate in CORE and CAMP each summer
  • Duties as assigned in support of A Disciplined Life
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with certification in Special Education. Knowledge and experience with current special education theories and practices in the transfer of knowledge to students with ranges of disabilities. Proven aptitude for incorporating multidisciplinary psychosocial needs and issues into the development of individual educational goals and plans. Ability to develop and foster successful teacher/student relationships. Ability to work collaboratively with teams and nurture collegial relationships. Proven organizational skills. Proven ability to work well with diverse constituents. Proven ability to verbally communicate ideas effectively. Proven ability to exercise initiative and discretion in the performance of position responsibilities.
