In serving a community that is primarily composed of Hispanic students and parents, the UNO Charter School Network provides an opportunity for teachers to reverse low achievement and dropout trends by building on strengths of this immigrant community—a solid work ethic, family orientation and commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities and taking advantage of opportunities as American citizens.
The UNO Charter School Network has been involved with educational reform in Chicago for the past 20 years and has responded to the educational dilemma by establishing six academically successful K-8 charter schools since 1997 and will open, in response to parent demand, a quality high school in 2008 that promotes UNO’s standard of high expectations and structured school environment.
