School Director
UNO knows that the key to student success is the adults in their lives. We believe in a call to service that reflects pride, passion and respect. UNO therefore sets out to find only the most talented, dedicated, visionary adults who are highly capable of infusing character by fostering real relationships with students. UNO believes in passionately employing high quality people, of high character who believe in using meaningful evaluative techniques to assess learning, who are consistently raising expectations, and who place supports in place to ensure that students achieve mastery.
The UNO teacher is unique in that they realize that success is built on relationships and they focus their work on student learning not teaching. Furthermore, they whole-heartedly believe that all students can learn and that it is all of our responsibilities to develop our students, both personally and academically. In serving a community that is primarily composed of Hispanic students and parents, the UNO Charter School Network provides an opportunity for teachers to reverse low achievement and dropout trends by building on strengths of this immigrant community—a solid work ethic, family orientation and commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities and taking advantage of opportunities as American citizens.
The UNO Charter School Network has been involved with educational reform in Chicago for the past 20 years and has responded to the educational dilemma by establishing six academically successful K-8 charter schools since 1997 and will open, in response to parent demand, a quality high school in 2008 that promotes UNO’s standard of high expectations and structured school environment.
UNO Charter School Network’s mission is to reshape the culture of education reform by creating learning environments where academic success is not a hope but an expectation.
UNO is searching for directors for two new elementary schools opening in Fall 2008. If you possess the enthusiasm and commitment to fulfill the promise of public education and are interested in joining our team to create a unique atmosphere of discipline and rigor throughout the school, we invite you to apply for a School Director position.
The School Director engages key constituents—students, teachers, parents and community—in creating a school environment that empowers students to achieve ambitious learning goals, thus preparing them for the finest area high schools, college and beyond. Utilizing the school as a catalyst for building community, the School Director contributes to UNO’s goal of supporting the broader success of Hispanic and other minority, urban families.

- Ensure student academic progress that aligns with state learning goals and results in achievement of annual goals set in coordination with UNO leaders
