
Principal
Catalyst Charter School - Howland opened in August 2006 and currently serves approximately 200 students in grades 3-6. It will expand each year until it reaches full capacity to serve approximately 500 students in grades K-8. Catalyst provides students and families from the underserved North Lawndale community with a new educational choice that includes ongoing academic support, and resources that will aid in their lifelong success. Catalyst follows a successful educational model that integrates elementary and middle school education, support of graduates through high school, and extensive family and community involvement.

Principal Job Overview
The principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of all school activities. He/she is immediately accountable to the President of Catalyst Schools and works in collaboration with the staff of the LaSalle Education Network. The duties of the principal as administrator, mentor and instructional leader include the following:
• Works with a leadership team of three to five staff selected by the principal that acts as a sounding board, a cabinet, a group of advisors who assist in leading the school.
• Recruit, hire, mentor, supervise and evaluate teaching staff.
• Develop and implement curriculum in conjunction with the Academic Office of LaSalle Education Network.
• Manage teacher and student responsibilities and schedules on a daily basis.
• Coordinate the discipline and dismissal of students.
• Communicate with parents and collaborate with staff to guarantee mentoring of parent organizations.
• Supervise and evaluate office staff and education support personnel.
• Oversee all record keeping and student files.
• Handle all compliance issues required by CPS and the State of IL.
• Implement Catalyst Board policies.
• Develop and participate in on-going professional development of faculty and staff.
• Maintain, in collaboration with LaSalle Education Network Human Resources Office, a personnel file for each staff member.
• Help develop and then maintain an annual budget.
• Communicate all necessary information to staff appropriately.
• Secure and maintain the safety of the children and staff and equipment in the building.
• Collaborate with LaSalle Education Network in developing an appropriately Lasallian culture in the school.
• Attend meetings required by CPS and the LaSalle Education Network. • Follow all required procedures and policies.
• Collaborate with LaSalle Education Network regarding Finance, Human Resource, Technology policies and Academic Excellence.
• Participate with the other principals in the network in a community of practice.
Qualifications
• Minimum 7 years teaching experience
• Experience as a school administrator or appropriate preparation desired
• In-depth understanding of educating children in an urban environment • Type 75 license • Masters Degree
• Experience in management and instructional supervision
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage complex relationships
• Willingness to embrace the mission of Catalyst Schools
