Instructor position description:
ACT Charter School provides students with a college-preparatory curriculum. We believe strongly that our success as a school originates with the quality of instruction and thus the strength of our teachers' practice. The teaching staff in particular is expected to drive the school's educational program and participate in constant reflection, critical review and growth. We also strongly value our role as mentors to our students. Every ACT teacher has a daily advisory group in which they attend to the social/emotional development of our students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree An Illinois teaching certificate -or- 1) Current enrollment in a certification program; 2) 5 years of experience in your field of expertise; 3) passing scores on the Illinois certification test of basic skills and subject-matter test
- Previous experience working with diverse students
- Ability to address student skill deficits without sacrificing critical thinking
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Experience with or willingness to develop a project-based curriculum
- Reflective about teaching practice
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Responsibilities:
A teacher's primary professional responsibility is classroom instruction of ACT students. Classroom duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Create structured creative lessons and curriculum in subject area, which increases students academic success, confidence, and college readiness skills
- Design and implement classroom assessments that measure student outcomes and analyze assessment date in order to make informed instructional decisions
- Participate fully in curriculum mapping process including submission of unit plans
- Grade and return student work in a timely manner
- Contact parents regarding students progress
- Seek and participate in continuing professional development
- Additional professional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Attend and participate at faculty and administrative meetings, parent conferences, open house and other school functions, and in service training sessions; Prepare for classroom instruction; Take responsibility for some non-classroom activity which adds value to the school community; Administer a variety of student assessment tools; Other duties as the needs of the school and needs of the students may demand.
