Full Description:

The primary responsibility of Galapagos Charter School Classroom Instructors is to ensure the academic growth of Galapagos Scholars. Galapagos expects a minimum of 80% of scholars to meet or exceed national growth norms.

Instructor Responsibilities:

Planning and Preparation

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of content area knowledge
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of best practices
  • Develop long range instructional plans based on Illinois State Standards
  • Design and submit weekly lesson plans
  • Plan and prepare for individual and small group instruction
  • Keep academic anecdotal notes for each scholar
  • Keep behavioral anecdotal notes for scholars as necessary
  • Log parental contacts
  • Prepare and maintain substitute plans

Assessment of Scholar Learning

  • Design rigorous, authentic classroom assessments to monitor progress
  • Submit all instructor designed assessments to the Academic Director for approval
  • Utilize assessment data to meet the individual instructional needs of scholars
  • Provide quarterly progress reports and report cards to communicate scholar progress

Learning Environment

  • Create an environment of respect and rapport in the classroom
  • Effectively manage scholar behaviors to ensure maximum time on task
  • Establish clear and effective classroom procedures
  • Maintain an organized, inviting physical environment that supports learning

Instruction

  • Provide engaging, clear, and effective instruction utilizing best practices identified by GCS
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in instruction
  • Utilize rigorous questioning and discussion techniques to facilitate higher order thinking

Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in all professional development sessions
  • Facilitate a minimum of 10 weeks of after school programming
  • Maintain communication with parents, colleagues and administration
  • Contribute to a professional environment which focuses on continuous improvement and positive interactions
  • Reflect on performance and make changes based on reflection
  • Perform all assigned duties and provide service to the school community
  • Participate in all evening activities
