Brief Description: Galapagos Rockford is recruiting strong instructors to join Galapagos in Rockford. Galapagos will open one of the first charter schools in Rockford. The school will open in the fall of 2009.

Application Process:

1. Interested applicants must provide the following:

  • Cover Letter: which details your educational philosophy. The cover letter should also address your interest in an urban, charter school.

3. GCS will contact qualified applicants to schedule a phone interview. Phone interviews are relatively informal and last about 30 minutes.

4. Selected applicants will be invited to an Instructor Interview Day, which may include any combination of the following: demonstration lesson, written questions, panel interview, group interview, individual interview. Some interview days include multiple candidates. Candidates can expect to spend 2-6 hours completing the interview process. Full Description:

Galapagos is results orientated. Instructors must demonstrate evidence of strong student growth. Less than 1.25 years of measurable growth is simply not acceptable.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement school approved curriculum
  • Develop/utilize appropriate instructional strategies to meet individual needs
  • Create a positive learning environment
  • Collect and assess student work in a timely manner
  • Develop recommendations, supported by adequate student assessments, for promotion
  • Oversee, enforce and document student discipline/supervision in accordance with GCS policies
  • Develop, submit and discuss lesson plans with the administrative team -Ensure substitutes are adequately prepared
  • Provide classroom instruction in physical education
  • Monitor classroom inventory
  • Organize and lead a minimum of four field trips per year

Outside the classroom:

  • Oversee student discipline/supervision in common areas
  • Promote the values and policies of GCS
  • Develop/maintain/document consistent communications with parents/guardians
  • Organize and lead one session (10 weeks) of after-school programming
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities
