Full Description:

The responsibilities for KIPP Ascend Charter School teachers include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • implement a standards-based, college preparatory curriculum in a specific subject
  • write and implement quality, well-planned, engaging lessons
  • use student achievement data to improve student academic performance and behavior
  • proactively manage student behavior using consistent school-wide systems
  • build positive and lasting relationships with students and families
  • field phone calls (during agreed upon hours) from students who need help
  • maintain consistent communication with students' families regarding academics and behavior
  • collaborate with other educators on Grade Level and Department Teams
  • participate actively in faculty meetings and professional development
  • seek to constantly refine one's instructional and management techniques
  • meet frequently with Principal and/or Deans to discuss student progress and programmatic feedback
  • conduct home visits for Commitment to Excellence signings and as needed throughout the year
  • perform morning, breakfast, lunch and/or dismissal duties as assigned
  • plan and travel with students on field lessons, both local and out-of-state
  • assist with the supervision of 4-5 Saturday School sessions throughout the year
  • fulfill all necessary administrative duties in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate for a KIPP Ascend faculty position will possess: demonstrated success teaching low-income students in an urban setting. A strong background in and command of his/her content area. IL State certification and/or 5 yrs. experience in the subject area you are teaching.
