ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

Lighthouse Academies' regional directors are more than operational and administrative managers. They help transform children's lives by creating opportunities for a brighter future. The regional director is accountable for the realization of the mission, achieving the network and cluster goals, and the financial and organizational viability of the cluster schools. The regional director is an instructional, operational and strategic leader who works directly with assigned school principals to create and enhance a culture of achievement and respect where high expectations and results are the norm. We are seeking regional directors who will make the commitment to conduct their work with determination, integrity and purpose, and who embody these essential qualities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The regional director is accountable for realization of the mission, achieving the network goals, and the financial and organizational viability of the assigned schools. The regional director is an instructional, operational and strategic leader who works directly with assigned school principals to create and enhance a culture of achievement and respect where high expectations and results are the norm. A regional director's actions must always be aligned with our mission, vision, core values and education program. The essential functions for our regional directors are as follows:

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

Instruction and Data Analysis

  • Oversee the implementation of all aspects of the education program at cluster schools to ensure achievement of network goals and other school-related goals (e.g., Accountability Plans and Culture of Achievement Plans)
  • Review data with school leadership teams in relation to school, cluster, and network goals
  • Use academic and non-academic data to have accurate, ongoing knowledge of students' progress against school-wide and network goals and to create action plans for meeting these goals Professional Development
  • Use the LHA Coaching Model to support and coach school leadership teams within the cluster in their implementation of the LHA education program and in meeting the network goals
  • Support and coach each principal in the cluster to the Principal Vision of Excellence and Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)
  • Implement, facilitate, and/or led professional development modules, as appropriate, in the cluster Culture of Achievement and Respect
  • Create and enhance a culture of achievement and respect among the principals and other adults in the cluster
  • Evaluate the principals in the cluster using the LHA School Leader Evaluation System
  • Evaluate assigned regional staff with others using LHA evaluation protocols
  • Oversee the compilation of and assist as needed with completion of state and local authorizer reports as well as LHA network reports
  • Contribute to meeting agendas and submit relevant documents for meetings with the local Board of Trustees; attend and participate, as needed, in the monthly board meetings
  • Lead Cluster Leadership Team meetings
  • Serve on the Regional Leadership Team

OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Management

  • Oversee principal management of and assist with the daily operations of schools in the cluster, including daily implementation and support of vendor relationships
  • Implement company systems, procedures, policies and manuals to oversee and monitor operations, program implementation, principal performance, and bonus approval
  • Manage the principal and office managers in cluster schools to ensure compliance with state and federal record keeping requirements and accuracy of state and federal records
  • Develop financial projections and the school budget with the principal for all schools in the cluster
  • Monitor and review school expenditures on a monthly basis with each principal in the cluster
  • Assist and support the start-up of new schools in the cluster including staffing, marketing, enrollment, coordination of professional development for new staff, and other functions required to open the school Culture of Achievement and Respect
  • Assist with the recruitment and selection of school principals, directors of instruction and other regional staff; approve DOI hiring in the cluster
  • Serve as the liaison with the state and local education departments, arts partners and other community groups
  • Meet with staff, parents and others on school issues as may be required
  • Perform other duties related to this position that may be assigned

  • Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve personal practice and the leadership capacity of principals in region; as well as to achieve the overall goals and mission of the regional schools and the network.
  • Access meaningful learning experiences (current theory, research, and developments in relevant academic disciplines, professional development opportunities, and ideas from colleagues and supervisors) and exercise judgment in accepting findings as valid for application in leadership and teacher improvement.
  • Reflect critically upon leadership experience; identify areas for further professional development as part of a professional development plan that is linked to school and network goals; access meaningful learning experiences; and listen thoughtfully to other viewpoints and respond constructively to suggestions and criticisms.
  • Use feedback to inform and update Individual Professional Development Plan.
  • Fulfill all outlined and related functions professionally, timely and thoroughly.

Requirements:

Master's Degree in Education or Education Administration

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Five (5) years of experience in school administration in high need, urban environments.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in all facets of school operations, education law and regulations, and federal program initiatives including Title 1 and special education.
  • Proven track record of closing the achievement gap at the administrative level.
  • Ability to turn best practices into high quality, goal-driven results.
  • Ability to think critically and solve immediate, short-term and long-term problems.
  • Experience with collaborative leadership and school-based decision making. Knowledge of the K-12 continuum.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize.
  • Experience with data managements tools and computer programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the region and periodically to the national office constitutes 80% of the time; valid driver's license required.
