Background:  

Noble Street Charter School opened in 1999 with the mission of preparing Chicago students with the scholarship, discipline and honor needed to excel in college and citizenship. Since that time, Noble has consistently ranked among the highest-performing non-selective schools in the city, while serving an 85% low-income population.   In 2005, the Noble Network of Charter Schools was established to replicate the Noble model in cooperation with the Chicago Public Schools’ Renaissance 2010 program. The Noble Network supports the collective mission of Noble campuses by accessing human and financial resources, administering programs and services that serve the common good of their students and employees, and seeking partnerships for successfully opening additional campuses. We have opened six Noble campuses throughout Chicago, and will open additional campuses in the near future to help us achieve our 2020 vision: 2,020 college graduates by the year 2020.  

Job overview:  

We are seeking a Director of Information Technology & Knowledge Management to lead the transformation of our IT architecture into a knowledge sharing system appropriate for a leading educational organization. Over the years, Noble has built a strong IT network among our campuses. While the IT director will ensure we maintain and enhance this infrastructure, the emerging focus is to leverage our network and increasing scale to enable greater sharing around key performance data and best practices. This position, which will balance strategic IT planning with day-to-day project execution and people management, reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and is a vital member of the Superintendent’s management team. The successful Director of IT & Knowledge Management will institute an accessible knowledge sharing system; work cooperatively to ensure timely and on-budget architecture installation in new campuses; and earn high satisfaction ratings from principals, teachers and students for quality service.  

Key responsibilities  

  • IT vision to support sharing of best practices to improve school performance
  • Work with educators and support managers to develop a shared IT strategy
  • Lead the research and development of an efficient, accessible sharing system, which enables us to capture and share key data about student and organizational achievement, as well as best practices around instruction, curriculum, and other initiatives
  • Coach IT team best practices for incorporation of technology into instruction
  • Design and implementation
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of all technology architecture, including network, servers, workstations, connectivity, backup, and information security
  • Manage relationships with third-party IT vendors, including negotiating, contracting, and supervising all consultants and suppliers
  • Administer IT purchasing and asset management
  • Oversee other technical systems, including communication infrastructure, website, etc
  • Team leadership
  • Provide leadership to campus IT support personnel, including coaching and training
  • Recruit and lead a team of IT experts to support growing organizational needs
  • Participate in Noble Network management team
  •   Student information
  • Supervise PowerSchool administrator
  • System administration
  • Ensure servers are maintained, maximizing bandwidth, connectivity, uptime and speed
  • Ensure support for standard networking equipment (including switches, routers, access points, wireless controllers, and adaptive security appliances)
  • Coordinate administration of exchange server and domain accounts, including distribution lists, mailboxes, message routing, and storage, file permissions, etc
  • Oversee information security, backups, and content filtering
  •   User support
  • Ensure excellent support for computers, printers, servers, classroom A/V equipment, computer labs, and other systems (our environment includes both PCs and Macs)
  • Facilitate high-quality, accessible training on systems for school staff ·         Budget and grants management
  • Oversee IT budget to ensure efficiency and preservation of assets
  • Lead E-rate application and implementation  

Candidate qualifications:  

  • Significant experience in IT, preferably with several years at a director level
  • Relevant degree, certification, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of multiple software platforms/products, technology languages, and data warehouses, as well as standard networking equipment, infrastructure and hardware
  •   Understanding of leading edge knowledge sharing tools and technology
  • Familiarity with federal E-rate program, PowerSchool student information system, Google Docs and Apps, and Microsoft SharePoint preferred, but not required
