Full Description:
The Librarian’s primary responsibility is to support and strengthen the mission of both school’s located at the Collins Campus – Collins Academy and North Lawndale College Preparatory Charter High School. The joint campus mission is as follows: through effective leadership and clear and open communication, all members of the Collins Community will promote a respectful and healthy environment dedicated to maintaining peace and rigorous academic standards. With healthy competition, shared resources, and partnership with community groups, we will foster a sense of trust and unity that supports our individual identities while personifying 2 Schools Living One Mission.
The Librarian is responsible for providing leadership and management for the campus library/media technology program and facilities. The primary function for the 2009-10 school year is to help the two schools sharing the Collins Campus to plan for the most appropriate use of the library for future success. The library facility has significant current holdings and additional resources available for short-term and long-term improvement based on completing a successful planning process this winter. The Librarian position for the 2009-10 school year is part-time and appointed by and reporting to both principals.
The Librarian’s job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- coordinate and plan the development of long range / strategic library goals including materials acquisition and development;
- make recommendations to the principals for the acquisition of materials such as books, magazines, computer programs, and furniture;
- ordering, receiving, cataloguing and displaying new materials including hardware, software, books, journals and other research materials;
- manage the library facility to provide flexible access to resources;
- training staff and students on the use of the library including both technology and hard copy books;
- maintain a friendly and inviting learning environment;
- managing computers, audio-visual equipment and other materials as required;
- collaborate with staff to provide support for learning within and beyond the curriculum; and
- publicize the library – its services & collection – and promote the role of the library in campus life.
Requirements:
The Librarian must be Illinois State Certified. Master’s degree and experience as a librarian and teacher in an urban high school are preferred. Other requirements include experience in the use of instructional technology, effective communication skills, receptivity to feedback, strong capacity to work with students and excellent collaboration skills in working with staff.
