Full Description:
This position is responsible for providing services to elementary and secondary students at the four University of Chicago Charter School campuses. The school psychologist will evaluate and help address students' learning and behavioral management challenges.
Major responsibilities and duties:
1. Compile and interpret students' test results, along with information from teachers and parents, to diagnose conditions and to help assess eligibility for special services.
2. Report any pertinent information to the campus leadership team and DCFS abuse hot-line in cases of child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
3. Assess an individual child's needs, limitations, and potential, using observation, school records, and consultation with parents and school personnel.
4. Assess, develop and respond to needs related to the requirements of all Individual Education Plans (IEP's) in collaboration with teachers, school nurse and social workers.
5. Provide consultation to parents, teachers, administrators and others on topics such as learning styles and behavior modification techniques.
6. Promote an understanding of child and adolescent development and its relationship to learning and behavior.
7. Possess strong collaboration and organizational skills in support of working with other educational professionals to develop teaching strategies and school programs.
8. Counsel children, adolescents and families to help solve conflicts and problems in learning and adjustment.
9. Maintain student records, including special education reports, confidential records, records of services provided and behavioral data.
10. Participate and provide expertise in meetings associated with the academic and social support system protocols used by the university of Chicago charter school campuses: identify children who need individualized academic and social support. Assist in Response to Intervention (RTI) for global interventions.
11. Flexibility working with various teams between the four campuses and students in grades pre-k thru
Qualifications:
Must be an Illinois state licensed psychologist with a Master's Degree in Psychology or Educational Psychology. Candidate should also have 2-5 years experience working within an urban elementary or secondary school environment or working directly with urban children and youth. Willingness to pursue a type 73 certification under the Illinois state board of education is a plus. Note: Funding Pending
