The Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago Position Description Biology Teacher YWLCS is looking for a highly motivated individual who seeks to join us in our mission to inspire urban girls to engage in rigorous college preparatory learning in a small school focused on math, science and technology that nurtures their self-confidence and challenges them to achieve.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

  • Teach 11th grade Biology classes
  • Lead daily advisory period for 15 students
  • Support literacy across the curriculum and lead half hour daily reading class
  • Work as part of the Senior Academy collaborating to create a positive learning environment for all students and achieve success in career and college planning
  • Work as part of the Science Content Area Team collaborating to strengthen the practice of YWLCS students as young scientists and encouraging their exposure to science outside the classroom

Candidates must possess the following:

Bachelor's degree and Illinois Teaching Credential required, advanced degree in education preferred Knowledge, coursework, and experience teaching high school mathematics; A relentless commitment to the work of sustaining an innovative environment for young women; Ability to respond with flexibility to demands and requirements of a small school environment; Demonstrated interest in public school reform and/or issues of gender equity; Ability to effectively collaborate with other teachers, staff and other community members; Previous experience working with people from diverse educational, socio-economic, family, and cultural backgrounds and willingness to cultivate relationships with students, families, and staff; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development; Proficiency in Spanish a plus; Strong classroom management skills; Ability to integrate technology into student learning activities and effectively utilize technology for personal/professional productivity; Ability to critically analyze own teaching practice and make changes when necessary; Ability to accept feedback from peers and colleagues and implement suggestions; Willingness to adapt teaching practice to effectively utilize an alternative assessment and grading system
