Full Description:

The Young Women’s Leadership Charter School is an all-girls, public charter school which serves 345 students in grades
7-12. The YWLCS is committed to the following set of principles:


· All students have the capacity to learn and achieve at high levels and succeed in a college preparatory school.
· There is value in teaching young women in a single-sex student population to develop high levels of mastery in math, science
and technology, for themselves and to contribute to the nation’s resources.
· Collegiality and collaboration among the adults in the school, the parents, the students, and the whole school community are
vital to the school’s overall success.
· Educating students in a diverse, urban environment provides unique opportunities for teaching and learning and empowering
them to affect change and achieve social justice.

Responsibilities include:
· Develop and teach fitness curriculum aligned with the mission of the school
· Facilitate and monitor physical development of every student
· Develop outcomes for classes and means by which to assessment every student
· Collaborate with faculty, staff and the larger school community, including school partners and social service providers
· Facilitate collaboration and communication with parents/guardians
· Comply with school policies and procedures

Requirements:

· Knowledge and experience in teaching a particular area (s) of fitness ( i.e. yoga, martial arts, aerobics, etc)
· College degree required
· Current teacher certification preferred
· Flexibility and creativity to develop a productive fitness experience in a multi-purpose room setting (we have no gym)
· Ability to teach approximately 8-10 classes per week on a part-time schedule
· Previous teaching and/or instructional experience in urban setting working with academically under-prepared students
· Previous experience working with young people in a variety of situations, experience with adolescent teens preferred
· Work with and understand people from diverse educational, socio-economic, family, and cultural backgrounds
· Demonstrated interest in public school reform and/or issues of gender equity
· Proficiency in Spanish preferred
