Mireya Vaca, Public Interest Program Fellow

Mireya Vaca joined INCS in September 2007 as part of a Northwestern public interest fellowship.  She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in sociology and global health.  As a student, she gained experience volunteering in community organizations as an ESL and citizenship class tutor at Centro Romero, as a translator at Community Health Clinic, and as an after-school volunteer at Howard Elementary.  While at NU, she learned much about the learning experiences of bilingual immigrant students in high schools around Chicago through her work as a research assistant to an education and social policy professor at Northwestern.

Mireya grew up and lives in the Little Village community of Chicago and is happy to be at INCS where she gets to interact with parents, help with events and learn more about the public education system.
