Regardless of what vehicle you use to communicate with your elected officials—in-person meetings, phone calls, letters—the key to successful grassroots advocacy is to view your communication as part of an ongoing relationship.

Ongoing, periodic communication will help you build a long-term relationship and increase the influence you have with your decision-maker. Throughout the year, you can:

  • Communicate with your decision-maker often
  • Meet with your decision-maker at your local charter school
  • Invite your decision-maker to charter school events
  • Attend your decision-maker's events and town hall meetings
  • Recruit others
