Each charter school handles its own admissions. If you're interested in attending a charter, please contact the school directly for information, open house dates, and an application. Look at the map or list of schools to find school contact information.
Charter schools typically begin accepting applications in January for the following school year. Applications are usually due in late winter or early spring. Applications can be obtained only from the school to which you are applying.
Because of their popularity, most charter schools have more applicants than places available in their schools. When this happens, schools run a lottery to choose between applicants. If you don't get chosen through the lottery process, your name will be placed on a waiting list.
Lotteries for the next fall’s entering classes are typically held between February and June. Lotteries are random, with preference typically given only for students who have siblings already attending the school.
The majority of schools are open to all students who reside in the school district. However, in a few Chicago schools, preference is also given to students from the surrounding neighborhood. (Contact the school directly to see if the school of your choice is one of the schools with neighborhood boundaries.)
