Pathways In Education (PIE) is an Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP) serving grades 9-12 in the Chicago community. Pathways In Education is looking for an Assistant Principal in the Chicago area with a Type 75 administrative credential to lead their Humboldt Park center. The Teacher will have the following responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of assigned teaching staff and learning centers. The Assistant Principal manages teacher’s schedules, fills in with students, coordinates substitute assignments and teaches students. The Assistant Principal is responsible for teacher development and providing support and services to help improve teacher performance. The Assistant Principal is responsible for academic performance and retention of students. This position is responsible for monitoring the delivering of our educational program to ensure data driven results based instruction for students in the implementation of the most up to date State Standards.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following: *
Meets with students and parents/guardians to discuss files and transcripts.
Teaches students and coaches, supports, develops students and moves them toward graduation. Fills in when needed.
Implements the ongoing training and development of staff, including regular teacher observation feedback, and goal settings.
Regularly coaches staff members to ensure that they continue to grow in their job knowledge and improve their student outcomes
Facilitates questions or needs of teachers and school administrators (or directs them to the appropriate staff member).
Communicates changes in policies or procedures to all assigned staff, including general announcements that effect center operations or staff involvement.
Oversees the day to day operations in the centers, including the purchase and distribution of supplies.
Monitors student academic growth and makes appropriate recommendations to the Principal.
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
Performs related duties such as student organizations or committees, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, or counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
Conducts annual reviews of all assigned staff in consultation with designated supervisor and/or others as appropriate.
Along with the Principal is responsible for creating and maintaining a school environment where student and staff safety is of paramount importance
Works with teachers to enforce student appropriate discipline policies and procedures
In collaboration with the principal is responsible for monitoring staff behavior and performance and for providing constructive feedback and/or discipline when necessary
Responsible for supervising community relations activities and initiatives.
Develops and maintains effective relationships with base and community agencies.
Performs other administrative functions and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to train, direct and delegate responsibility to staff.
Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining courtesy and professionalism.
Superior knowledge of company policies, procedures, and program offerings, including use of curriculum, MS Office and company proprietary software (CSIS).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Bilingual preferred, able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to travel as needed.
Assists with other projects, functions and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
Supervisory or managerial skills.
At least 18 months of company teaching experience.
Education and Experience:
Professional Educator License (PEL) with the appropriate Administrative Endorsement/ Type 75 certificate
