Latino Youth High School (LYHS) is seeking an attendance clerk for the 2023-2024 school year.
Our level 1 charter school offers Chicago area students a second chance to obtain their high school diploma. We incorporate a student-centered approach that emphasizes individualized instruction coupled with various social-emotional supports such as on-site counseling, mentoring, and leadership development. LYHS provides a safe and respectful environment for young people who have not found success in larger, more traditional schools.
Overview: To keep an accurate record of students’ absences and to improve the average daily attendance rate of the school. To operate the school computer system to minimize paperwork tasks for teachers and administrators.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Enters student attendance and demographic data into PowerSchool and ASPEN
• Monitors student attendance and tardiness accurately and on a daily basis. Verifies early departures with the administrative team and adjusts student attendance accordingly.
• Monitors teacher submission of attendance each period. Informs the administrative team if particular teachers are chronically late in submitting their classroom attendance on time.
• Submits and maintains weekly ASPEN attendance data at YCCS network office every Wednesday afternoon and as needed.
• In collaboration with the Dean of Students create a behavioral modification plan for chronically absent or tardy students.
• Collects and verifies student absence notes.
• Sends letters informing parents of students’ absence on a weekly basis
• Makes home visits for chronically absent students.
• When a student is absent, calls parents or guardians to inform them of the absence.
• Schedules substitute teachers when general education teachers are absent.
• Assists the front desk and school’s registrar as needed.
• Performs other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, folding, photocopying, and collating.
• Other duties as assigned for the purpose of maintaining the school flow of operations
Education and Experience:Spanish-speaking preferred. 3-5 years of administrative and clerical assistance experience. Associate’s degree is preferred, but not required.
