Great Lakes Academy is an independent charter school founded in 2014. For the 2021-22 academic year we will be serving students in grades K-8. We are currently seeking a high capacity, enthusiastic, hard-working, growth minded individual to serve on our team as our Behavior Interventionist.

Job Description

The Behavior Interventionist works closely with GLA’s Instructional Leadership Team, School Social Worker, and teachers in maintaining a fiercely positive, warm/strict school culture. The Behavior Interventionist provides individual support to students in need of support and growth for their self-regulation so they can thrive at school.

Job Outputs

-Maintains positive behavioral systems and procedures at school and ensures they are clear, consistent and drive 100% of students towards on-task learning
-Maintains a clear, consistent, calm reset room that helps build social/emotional skills in students and re-sets them to return to class ready to learn in under 10 minutes
-Assists in establishing the scope and sequence for character (social/emotional) teaching
-Creates and supports the execution of school-wide incentive systems, classroom and grade level incentive systems
-Creates and executes project plans for positive culture building school wide events, typically 1-2 per month
-Creates strong family connections and communication channels
-Maintains clear data tracking for all students and student records
-Assists in Tier 1 and Tier 2 student behavioral supports and interventions and in data tracking of interventions
-Establishes and maintains positive relationships and open communication with families, staff and community
-Supports teachers in creating and executing strong and consistent management systems and procedures in classrooms

Job Responsibilities

-Maintains systems and structures for a fiercely positive, core value-driven culture that build student confidence and self determination
-Works with the administrative team to implement and maintain every detail of the school’s student systems and procedures, including PBIS, discipline, transitions, homework, community celebrations, breakfast, lunch, and classroom culture so that GLA is structured and highly joyful with a focus on growth and character development.
-Implements behavior supports and interventions for students
-Maintain systems for tracking school culture and monitors, analyzes and defines action plans based on this data.
-Supports and conducts regular school culture audits
-Handles in-school disciplinary action and coordinates any additional consequences with LT.
-Primary communication to families regarding discipline challenges during school
-Supports execution of calm, joyful breakfast, lunch, entry and dismissal
-Supports management and culture coaching for teachers
-Supports school-wide culture initiatives for students and staff
-Ensures all student behavioral data is up to date and analyzed weekly.
-Supports behavior plan creation and execution and data tracking for tier 2 and 3 students
-Supports creation and professional development for Tier 1 classroom culture vision and execution
-Manages campus event planning

-Experienced educator with track record of student success in the classroom and around student culture
-Strong communicator and relationship builder with adults, including peers and families
-Able to contribute to a strong, collaborative, transparent and motivated team
-Able to drive cultural consistency, emotional consistency, system and procedural consistency, intentionally calm and positive
-Demonstrated leadership skills – highly organized and efficient, self-motivated
-Teacher coaching and professional development experience
Strong time management skills with the ability to be flexible

Job Requirements

-Paraprofessional or Teaching License is required.
-Minimum of two years experience with teaching or behavior intervention in an urban public school or urban charter school setting required.
-Belief in and alignment with Great Lakes Academy’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
