Great Lakes Academy is a high-achieving, independent, K-8 Charter School founded in 2014 on the Southeast side of Chicago. We are seeking a high capacity, detail oriented, fiercely positive, growth oriented Development and Communications Officer to join our team.

Job Description
The Great Lakes Academy Development and Communications Officer is charged with building the school’s profile locally and nationally, supporting individual and corporate fundraising initiatives, and facilitating activities, solicitations and engagement surrounding GLA’s Annual Beacon Fund.

Job Responsibilities
Fundraising & Partnerships
Develop and execute a year-round multi-channel solicitation calendar across individuals, corporations and grants
Manage stewardship activities for gifts below $2,500
Keep updated & organized the donor database, ensuring all data is current
Create monthly data reports
Assist in preparation for Board Meetings, Associate Board Meetings, and donor meetings
Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, the Fall Fundraiser, BE GREAT spring fundraiser, and Golf outing.
Support the planning and execution of Volunteer Day events
Support the Associate Board in creating & executing all events & meetings

Marketing & Communication
Design and implement the school’s social media strategy addressing all stakeholders
Create quarterly donor communication focused on highlighting the school’s impact

Strong communication and relationship building skills
Ability to establish relationships with a variety of stakeholders from GLA families and students
Self-starter, able to independently seek out new opportunities for the school
Ability to successfully solicit donations from individuals and corporations
Flexible, dynamic, highly organized and efficient, able to balance multiple competing priorities
Strategic thinker, considering various opportunities and external best practices to create and cultivate connections between the school and the community
Creative problem solver with strong big picture understanding combined with detailed project planning

Bachelor’s degree is required
1-3 years of development experience required
Belief in, and commitment to, the Great Lakes Academy school mission and vision is non-negotiable
