Great Lakes Academy is a high-achieving, independent K-8 Charter School founded in 2014 serving the communities of South Shore and South Chicago. GLA’s mission is to prepare every student with the fundamental academic skills, critical thinking ability, and strength of character to excel in high school, college, and a career of their choice.

We are looking for a high energy, detail-oriented, fiercely positive, experienced leader to help build GLA’s Enrichment programming for before, after and summer school experiences for our scholars. The program would be both academic and enrichment based to continue a well-rounded experience for our scholars throughout the day and year.

Job Description

The Director of Enrichment (DE) will create a vision for and execute on that vision of a comprehensive enrichment program. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader with broad interests and skills in team-building, academics, arts, athletics, maker’s spaces, technology and systems creation and implementation. GLA’s academic enrichment program will provide scholars with the support they need to amplify the effect of GLA’s core curriculum and to close any gaps, which is of particular concern due to the pandemic and remote learning.

The DE will build their team from the ground up, creating a robust academic enrichment program inside-of-school hours, outside-of-school hours and in the summertime. They will recruit staff and run day-to-day academic enrichment operations with a focus on enrichment programming during the school day.

Job Outputs

Build a comprehensive system of academic enrichment (a) before school, after school, during the summer and during any other times most conducive to helping students when they are ready to learn, coordinating closely with the instructional leadership at GLA (b) that identifies and responds to student academic needs, (c) driven by data and evidence-based practices, (d) that responds to student, parent and teacher demand for programs in fine arts, performing arts, foreign languages, coding, engineering, physical education, and new opportunities, (e) responsive to funding opportunities, (f) resulting in measurable gains in academic achievement
Build and coordinate an academic enrichment program that utilizes the school’s existing data and coordinates large and small group tutoring and is also overlapped and fully integrated with the school’s MTSS process.
Recruit, hire, train, support and retain a full team of tutors, trainers, teachers and before-school, after-school and during-summer team members, coordinating a program consistent with the Mission and the Enrichment and School Vision
Implement partnerships with outside organizations, leveraging external capacities in building internal academic proficiencies
Identify and implement diverse enrichment opportunities aligned to data-driven academic enrichment decisions
Create and implement measurably effective summer climb academic program to supplement school-year academic progress

Job Responsibilities

Establishing a daily program of after and before school enrichment that supports students in both academic and social-emotional gains
Establishing a summer school enrichment program that supports students in both academic and social-emotional gains
Ensuring program compliance before, during and after school and during summers
Marketing programming and engaging scholars and staff
Coordinating academic support programming with academic instructional leads at GLA and ensuring academic coordination and support driven by scholars’ academic data
Hiring, managing, training, retaining a high quality, diverse staff across multiple skill-sets including both tutoring, intervention, and many enrichment opportunities such as sports, dance, music, arts, theater, chess, debate, etc.
Ensuring relevant daily attendance of scholars and staff
Coordinating sign-up of scholars,
Coordinating parent communication for all programming
Managing pick-up and drop-off for enrichment
Creating and managing all course offerings and programming that supports the GLA Mission & Vision
Working across GLA team to coordinate facility needs for enrichment programming

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree is required.
Minimum of five years experience working in a similar capacity at a school with demonstrated track record of success or in a role that demonstrates high levels of ability across core competencies; and
Belief in and alignment with Great Lakes Academy’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
