We are seeking an ambitious, full-time English Language Learners (ELL) Coordinator/Bilingual Teacher for the CICS Basil campus. This individual must be ELL, ESL, or Bilingual certified in Spanish. The ELL Coordinator/Bilingual Teacher will work with the school team to ensure high quality instruction for all ELL students (approximately 50 students). This individual will function as a liaison between Chicago Public Schools’ Department of Language and Cultural Education (DoLCE) and the school, and will assist the school administration in complying with Federal and State laws regarding ELLs. Instructionally, the ELL Coordinator/Bilingual Teacher will provide transitional bilingual education (TBE) to a group of students, as well as ESL instruction to ELLs who have exited TBE but still require additional language support.

Bachelor’s Degree required.
Valid Illinois PEL with Bilingual and/or ESL endorsement required.
Create a positive, structured learning environment to ensure that students observe the school’s core values, high expectations, and strict code of conduct.
Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
Adapt and implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards and the requirements of a Transitional Bilingual Education Program.
Be accountable for students’ mastery of content and language standards.
Focus constantly on student learning, thinking critically and strategically to respond to student learning needs.
Reflect on successes and areas of growth; seek to improve performance.
Participate actively in collaborative subject-area, grade-level, and school-wide activities.
Work with instructional leader to constantly evaluate and improve instructional skills.
Participate in an annual three-week staff orientation and training.
Intake and Placement of ELLs
Coordinate administration of required English language proficiency screeners (W-APT, MODEL).
Coordinate the administration of the ACCESS test within the designated time frame.
Review ELL rosters and ACCESS preliminary reports to assure that ELLs are placed/transitioned appropriately in programs of instruction.
Coordinate the distribution of the Parent Notification Letters.
Attend all ELL Coordinator working sessions and disseminate information among school leaders and teachers.
Update ELL profiles on SIM in a timely manner.
Coordinate the maintenance of documentation for all compliance visits.
Collaborate with special education staff to ensure ELLs with IEPs are serviced appropriately and that the service delivery model numbers are entered into SIM.
Ensure all teachers attend two required professional development activities related to ELLs per year.
Family and Community
Assist school leaders and teachers with ongoing communication with parents of ELLs.
Facilitate the establishment and operation of the Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC).
