Kindergarten Teacher – Substitute Position for Maternity Leave

Alain Locke Charter School is looking for a long term sub for a kindergarten instructor who will be going on maternity leave. It will be from September to mostly December. An ideal candidate is someone who is willing to do what it takes to make sure that students learn and achieve at the highest level.

Instructors are responsible for creating a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program as well as maintaining a classroom environment that promotes learning.

The following list of job requirements describes the general level of work being performed by staff members assigned to this job and is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.
• Create a positive educational climate that is conducive to learning
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures
• Create lesson plans that integrate learning objectives; modify accordingly throughout the year
• Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that maximize learning opportunities and provide real-world application that reflect core-aligned expectations
• Utilize various curriculum resources and school-wide assessments
• Utilize a variety of learning strategies in each lesson that includes differentiated instruction within those lessons
• Plan and execute whole/small group instruction based on assessment results
• Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed as well as maintain grade books
• Participate in the Response to Intervention process which includes planning and facilitating individualized strategic intervention to address student needs and generate progress reports as required
• Participate in weekly school-wide professional development opportunities
• Participate with other staff members in curriculum planning during designated meetings
• Communicate with parents/ guardians when appropriate
• Contribute to the accomplishment of school and classroom goals
• Coordinate class field trips
 Participate in activities to ensure a positive school culture
 Follow and enforce Alain Locke policies


 Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
 Able to utilize materials effectively to enhance instruction
 Strong time management skills
 Able to adapt to different tasks as needed or requested
 Able to work with a minimum of supervision
 Demonstrates effective communication skills
 Able to use a variety of problem solving techniques
 Able to work in a collaborative manner with school personnel and parents

• Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent
• Possession of valid teaching certification
• Command of grades/subject specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques
