Located in Humboldt Park, Erie Elementary Charter School is a caring and collaborative community for
children in grades K-8. Founded in 2005, Erie was born from Erie Neighborhood House, a social service
agency with a 150-year history of service and education. Erie Elementary’s culture is grounded in
building a just and inclusive society. We provide families an opportunity for students to receive a
nurturing, culturally-responsive K-8 education.

Erie provides children with a quality dual-language education that values their unique life experience,

individual will lead Erie in instructional leadership, school culture and staff management.This is an

Responsibilities and Goals
Lead the School Community
● Nurture a culture such that Erie maintains high expectations, while remaining an authentic and
caring community that prepares all students for success;
● Ensure that Erie reaches high levels of academic performance, by internal and external
measures, including district and state benchmarks;
● Prioritize meeting the social and emotional learning (SEL) needs of our students and families;
● Engage proactively and respectfully with faculty and staff in pursuit of school goals and respond
to identified needs;
● Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders—faculty, staff, students, families, volunteers,
community members, as well as Board members and donors in collaboration with Executive
Director
Lead Instructional Excellence
● Model and lead our educational philosophy through planning and implementation of rigorous
academic/intellectual and integrated social/emotional educational framework, including
responsive classroom;
● Champion and guide Erie’s dual language mission, ensuring that the approach is equitable,
supported, and integrated throughout the school;
● Set the school’s instructional strategic plan and manage the plan’s execution;
● Guide and supervise the instructional leadership team in planning, implementing, and evaluating
academic programs and in supporting and supervising faculty and staff;
● Elevate data-driven instructional practices, including both formative and summative
assessments;
● Develop the instructional practice and expertise of teachers through frequent observation,
feedback, and professional development;
● Oversee the recruitment, training, evaluation, and retention of faculty;;
● Guide and support special education best practices.
Manage Toward a Sustainable Organization
● Set vision for, measure, and communicate academic organizational performance to Executive
Director and board and key stakeholders in collaboration with the Executive Director
● Manage relations with parent leadership groups to promote organizational priorities and
community inclusiveness;
● In partnership with the Executive Director and appropriate staff, ensure adherence to school
regulatory compliance matters, finance/resource allocation, and talent management.
● Working closely with operations staff, manage school facilities and school budget.

Qualifications
● A belief that all children can succeed.
● Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree in education/educational leadership strongly
preferred.
● Professional Educator License (PEL) with Principal Endorsement.
● ESL Language certification and/or Bilingual Education Teacher – Spanish certification preferred.
● Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
● Clear and effective communication skills both in writing and orally.
● Three or more years of experience in successful school administration/instructional leadership in
an urban setting, including staff supervision.
● Demonstrated skill and success in developing and maintaining a rigorous academic program that
meets the needs of all students, with experience in dual language programs preferred.
● Positive experience working in, for, and on behalf of individuals and organizations within urban
communities.
● Experience and practice in Responsive Classroom approach preferred
● Experience in and/or knowledge of public education accountability, compliance, and related
legal requirements.
Additional Details
● Full-time, twelve-month work year
● Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience
● Start date is flexible, with a target of July 1,2022
