INCS Applauds Governor Pritzker’s Signing of Charter School Bill

Posted on: August 12, 2019

The Illinois Network of Charter Schools (INCS) applauds Governor J.B. Pritzker’s recent decision to sign HB 3659 into law. This new law requires all board members of Illinois’ charter public schools to complete annual board training and ensures parental voice by requiring that at least one member of a charter public school’s governing board be a parent and/or guardian. INCS has always supported high-quality charter public schools and this new law will improve governance practices at existing charter public schools. The bill received strong, bipartisan support in the Illinois General Assembly this past spring. The governor’s signing of the bill into law strengthens governance of charter public school boards and continues to put accountability first – a hallmark of the charter public school movement.
