INCS CONGRATULATES NEW CPS SUPERINTENDENT DR. MACQULINE KING
Dr. King will now oversee Chicago’s 55,000 charter public school students.

CHICAGO, ILL. – The Illinois Network of Charter Schools (INCS) congratulates Dr. Macquline King on her permanent appointment to superintendent of Chicago Public Schools. We are encouraged by Dr. King’s willingness to work alongside the charter community to understand challenges we face and help problem solve so that our charter public students can thrive.

Since stepping into the role on an interim basis last year, Dr. King has led the district through budget challenges, federal immigration raids, and many more problems impacting Chicago’s students and families. She has demonstrated herself as a leader who is will to put differences aside and collaborate to find equitable solutions.

Dr. King will oversee Chicago’s 325,000 students, including 55,000 charter students and their families. Charter students, 96.4% of whom are students of color and 85% of whom receive free or reduced lunch, are just as much a part of CPS as their counterparts in district-operated schools. It is our hope that Dr. King will continue to value these students as they do any other child in our city, and the charter community stands eager and ready to support CPS’ commitment to educational equity.
