The Dean of Culture and Climate ensures a safe and orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates a positive school climate. This position is a leader in the planning, coordination and administration of school activities including curriculum instruction, assessment, student conduct and attendance and extracurricular programs.
Essential Job Functions
Administer a fair and consistent discipline system with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the school in accordance with due process and other applicable laws and regulations
Develop and implement student programs
Collect and analyze student discipline data to inform program development
Formulate, develop and recommend student policies
Advise staff members on problems relating to policy, program, and administration
Counsel or advise students on matters pertaining to personal problems, educational and vocational objectives, social and recreational activities, and financial assistance
Meet with parents regarding student discipline and behavioral issues
Review reports of student misconduct cases that require disciplinary action to ensure that commendations conform to school policies
Represent the school in the community on matters pertaining to student programs.
Supervise Academic Advisors in the implementation of the school-wide plan for creating a positive culture of behavior in the school
Participate with school staff in the development and implementation of the school-wide plan for creating a positive culture of behavior in the school
Notify appropriate personnel and agencies immediately, and follow established procedures when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids
Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies
Manages teachers and observes classrooms for feedback and evaluations that helps teachers grow and excel in the classroom
Lead team meetings, supervise student discipline, manage parent relationship, and serve as an active member of the leadership team
Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
Manage parent and community relationship
Meet regularly with Principal to discuss student issues and provide input and recommendations
Work with Principal and staff on promoting positive school climate
Assist teachers to develop clear and consistent classroom expectations and routines
Analyze budget to identify budget needs and/or reduction
Controls expenditures in accordance with budget allocations
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field. Master’s preferred.
A minimum of two years of leadership experience
A minimum of three years teaching experience at the High School Level.
Knowledge of student discipline issues and applicable policies, laws and regulations.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred
Excellent computer skills
