Charter Community Unites for Back to School Supply Drive for Local Students

Posted on: October 7, 2021

On Saturday, September 18, 2021, Represent Your Community and Centro San Bonifacio, along with community partners Illinois Network of Charter Schools and ASPIRA, provided families with school book bags, supplies, free haircuts, face painting, and provided an arts & craft table for children to show off their artistic skills.

Early Saturday morning, community volunteers organized book bags filled with school supplies donated by the Illinois Network of Charter Schools and ASPIRA. Each book bag contained a folder, a notebook, and a pouch filled with pencils, rulers, crayons, and glue, among other supplies. The event was held at the parking lot of Café Fenix, located between the Belmont and Hermosa neighborhoods. Families stopped by for free school supplies from 1 pm till about 3 pm and enjoyed some good music. In addition, children received a fresh haircut provided by a talented teacher from the neighborhood school ASPIRA Business and Finance.

A local family of three emphasized, “Muchas gracias por pensar en nuestras familias, thanks so much for considering the needs of families. Additionally, Manuel Jimenez, co-founder of Represent Your Community and proud teacher, stated, “God is good. We are just happy to help our community.” For more upcoming events, follow @Represent_Your_Community_Chi on Instagram and join the Facebook Group.
