Alain Locke Charter School is currently looking for a Primary Grade Instructor for the 2024-2025 school year. Alain Locke runs on an extended school year calendar with breaks spread out throughout the school year. The position would begin July 8, 2024, for the start of our staff summer retreat. The 2024-25 school year for Alain Locke starts July 15th.
Alain Lock is a standards-based school utilizing the Wonders 2023 reading curriculum and the Eureka Math Squared curriculum for the primary grades. Alain Locke instructors utilize a data-driven teaching and learning cycle approach to tailor and guide instruction that supports each student’s unique learning needs.
PURPOSE
Classroom instructors are responsible for planning and facilitating a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program as well as maintaining a classroom environment that promotes learning.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•Create and maintain a positive classroom climate conducive to learning.
•Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures while consistently implementing Alain Locke’s Code of Conduct and Alain Locke Way.
•Facilitate curricular lessons that integrate learning objectives and modify, when appropriate, to ensure that all students have access to grade level learning experiences.
•Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that maximize learning opportunities and provide real-world applications that reflect core-aligned expectations.
•Utilize various teaching strategies in each lesson, including differentiating instruction to support student learning, as well as plan and execute whole/ small group instruction.
•Participate in our school-wide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) program which includes planning and facilitating individualized strategic interventions to address academic and/or social emotional needs of identified students.
•Participate in school-wide professional development opportunities.
•Perform administrative duties as needed such as maintaining grade books, recording attendance, and communicating with parents through an online platform (Bloomz).
•Communicate with parents/ guardians as needed.
•Contribute to the accomplishment of school and classroom goals.
•Coordinate class field trips.
•Participate in activities to ensure a positive school culture.
•Follow and enforce Alain Locke policies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
•Possession of valid Illinois teaching certification.
•Command of grades/subject specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
