We are seeking a Director of Dual Language & ELL Programs to help support the work we do.

Passages Charter School serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Focused specifically on the needs of immigrant and refugee students. Passages offers a tailored educational program focused on high academic standards, and instruction based on students’ individual needs.

Position Objective:

The Director of Dual Language & ELL Programs plans, develops, implements, and evaluates programs for English Learners. The Director provides training to EL staff, general education staff, and administrators; monitors program compliance; provides curricular resources to teachers and staff; provides consultation and support to administrators and staff in the area for English Learners and related supports; other related functions as directed.

Responsibilities:

Plan, organize and coordinate Dual Language & EL programs and services.
Ensure compliance with State and Federal mandates for English Learners.
Lead the development, management, and evaluation of English Learner programs and/or projects for the purpose of carrying out and achieving defined goals and objectives
Makes informed decisions to improve organizational outcomes by utilizing a data-driven approach
Understand pupils’ language learning’s physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns
Ensure curricular resources and instructional methods in the area of English Learning match current research-based best practices and meet student needs.
Administering tests and language assessments to evaluate students’ language ability.
Assess student progress, expectations, and goals in the bilingual program.
Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize appropriate instructional techniques that enable limited English proficient students to overcome barriers that impede equal participation by these students in instructional programs.
Establishing positive learning expectation standards for students, evaluating students’ progress, and maintaining current and accurate records of students’ achievements
Supervise, assign, and direct staff in the area of English Learners, and support Principal in the supervision of EL staff.
Present information on programs, services, regulations, etc. for the purpose of serving as a resource to other school personnel.
Coach, mentor, and challenge others to excel despite obstacles and challenging situations.
Build positive relationships in and out of the organization.
Increase the effectiveness of surrounding teams through collaboration, constant learning and supporting others.
Be sensitive to diversity in all its forms; respect and commit to learning from others.
Observe, consult with, and assist teacher in the development and implementation of bilingual, dual language, and transitional programs of instruction.
Provide training and consultation to administration, teachers, support staff and parents in the area of English Learning to improve instructional capacity and student outcomes.
Plan, organize and conduct comprehensive professional development programs for teachers, administrators, and parents.
Attend training sessions to support Dual Language classrooms and instruction.
Evaluate EL and Bilingual staff utilizing formative and summative assessments for Dual Language and EL and utilize data to improve instruction.
Establish and maintain cooperative organizational, public, and educational community relationships.
Anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs in a high-quality and courteous manner.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree in Education or a related field (preferred)
Valid Professional Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education with Bilingual Endorsement
Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in Bilingual Education or closely related field (required).
Experience in a K-8 school in an urban district, charter school setting, or international setting preferred.
Experience in site administration or district administration with increasing levels of responsibility (required)
Understanding of instruction, assessment, and support strategies for English Learners
Understanding of laws, regulations and education code pertaining to English Learners
Understanding of the continuum of EL services and placement options
Knowledge of philosophical, educational, fiscal, and legal aspects affecting school system operation as it pertains to English Learners
Experience with human relationships, conflict resolution strategies and procedures, and team management building methods and techniques
Able to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse group of individuals
Able to communicate clearly and compellingly with diverse stakeholders in both oral and written forms
Passionate for ensuring that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, receives an excellent education
Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
