The UChicago Charter School is a public charter school in the Chicago Public Schools district composed of three campuses serving approximately 1,500 students on Chicago’s South Side. UChicago Charter’s North Kenwood/Oakland and Donoghue elementary campuses serve grades preK–5, and its combined middle and high school Woodlawn campus serves grades 6-12. Together, the three campuses of the UChicago Charter School provide a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade “superhighway” to college, cultivating students to become critical thinkers and leaders who succeed in four-year colleges and beyond. At the middle school and high school levels, we welcome applications from teachers who can provide a rigorous balanced literacy approach to English/language arts and effective inquiry-based instruction in mathematics, the sciences, the social sciences, world languages, the performing arts, and physical education/wellness education. At the K-5th levels, we value teachers with content area expertise, knowledge and experience in using balanced literacy frameworks and Everyday Mathematics. A well-qualified literacy teacher will have knowledge and experience in using the balanced literacy framework. A well-qualified math teacher will have extensive knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and the Standards for Mathematical Practices to deliver targeted small group instruction. At all levels, we seek teachers with expertise and commitment to teaching students with exceptional needs, both in resource and inclusion settings. Qualified applicants are licensed, with a bachelor’s degree and rigorous clinical preparation for teaching urban students and/or experience working in urban context. They believe in the unlimited potential of urban children and youth to learn deeply and achieve at high levels, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic class.
